I’m old
Not yet, but in 1 week from today, I’ll be 30 THIRTY!!!!!! THIRTY YEARS OLD, how can I be 30? I remember going to kindergarten. How can I be 30. I feel pretty young. I’ve always looks pretty young, felt pretty young, had zits and oily skin like a young person, and then whammo, I’m old. I feel old (my back hurts from lifting heavy boxes) I look old, thanks to my mother I am cursed with totally grey hair at 30, sorry mom but its true. My skin is going dry, just like my mother said hers did. I’m turning into my mother, which isn’t a bad thing, but comeon, I’m only 30. I don’t want to be my mother until I’m like 50 or something:)
But then I’m still young…I have a 7 month old baby (happy 7 mos tomorrow Journey) and I wrestle with my kids, and I am petulant and brooding sometimes, okay a lot:) And I still DO get zits, and I like popscicles and and and….
I’m feeling a little sick about turning 30. I really really didn’t think I would care, but my wrinkles and grey hair make me feel like turning 30 is a really bad thing. I KNOW its not, but I’m feelin a little weird about it.
(BTW, duh, I know 30 isn’t that old, but I think in combo with everything else, its making me feel OLD)

Nonsense – 30 is NOT old. You are as old as you act!!! I forget my age alot – and then have to do the math… (which is getting more and more complicated each year…) : ) Happy Birthday a week early and Happy 7 months to Journey!!! Look at it this way – Keanu Reeves – FORTY!!! Tina Turner – Over 50!!! Johnny Depp – 42! (I could go on…. but I think you get my point)
Aw- Bonzairn beat me to it! Here’s my motto: You’re as old as you feel. AKA: If you don’t want to fit the “mold” per se, then DON’T!!
I’m 31 as of this past weekend, July 22nd. But I don’t care- in my head I will always be a spiivvy 21 year old girlie… HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY, fellow spiivvy girlie-girl! (I *will* you to be so!lol)
I’m actually excited to be 30. I’ll be 31 in September. I have decided that my 30s are going to be WAY better than my 20s. It’s a great time to be alive.
Hey watch it Chickie. This is the old woman you’ve been meligning.
I remember when you were born. What an answer to our prayers! We named you Joy because God promised you would be a joy and a blessing to many people.
Keep up the good work.
I love you more than words.
Mom
well, I know just what you mean. at least you’re not 34 (teeheehee)…! no, actually the thirties have been fabulous (thus far) and everyone always says that the thirties are the best decade because you’re through with all the BS of your twenties… I’d have to agree with that. although, I will be totally honest here and admit to feeling mixed about it from time to time. sometimes I feel perpetually 28 (and would love to go back to that age as my late twenties were fantastic years for me)… and sometimes I really love being 34. I definitely think it is a state of mind!
anyhoo, happy birthday (a little early)… hope you do it up right!
oh, and I love the ‘30′ sign pictured here… only one thing I love more than letters/alphabets… and thats numbers…!
30 was my best year ever. And so far 31 is shaping up pretty nicely!! Not that you were looking for everyone to disagree with 30 being bad – but my 30th birthday was sad for me…..and then it turned out to be the BEST YEAR EVER. Plus you’re not old – you’re hot.
Hey!! What a cool picture of the number 30!
Isn’t Jon older than you?
I’m 29 till next march so I will be there soon! I am actually quite cool to be out of “20 something” I already feel like I don’t relate to it as much anymore. doesn’t life really start in your 30s? Besides jeff will be 35, so I will ALWAYS be 5 years younger
HAPPY BIRTHDAY NEXT WEEK
Well, keep in mind that moving makes you feel about 50 years older for awhile. It does for me, anyway!
I’ve been 30 for almost a whole year now. I like it! You will too, I promise.
Admit it, the 20’s were exhausting. : )
I remember feeling that way too….scared of turning the big 30. Not long after, I realized that a) it is just a number b) you can’t turn back the clock so you best make the most of it c) you really are as young or old as you feel. So with that said, I embraced my 30’s and starting working on the things that I didn’t “like” about myself and accepting other things that I couldn’t change. I am happy to report that life has only gotten much better since. I wish you the same.
As a 32 year old I am happy to report that except for the wonderful independence of the 20’s that I miss, the 30’s have been great! Sometimes, because I am forever considered to be about 25, I actually enjoy throwing a “no, Im 32″ at someone. Your number might sound older, but like everyone else has said, your only the age you act. Embrace it, love it, your still a hip cool young thang and aint nobody can take that away from you! Happy Birthday!!!
Yay!!! Join my club!!! LOL I was anxious to turn 30…It helps me stop worrying about things that dont matter
I will be 30 on August 9th. I could say a lot about that but I won’t. Thanks for sharing.
i agree with everyone else….age is so relative. i am about to be 32 in august and i have to say that i haven’t given it a second thought. turning 30 was hard but once i got here i realized that i was glad to leave the 20’s. i feel more like myself now than i ever have in life. so it’s makes sense that you are sad, we all go through it, 30 is a weird birthday. but then after it’s over you realize it’s not so bad!!!! it’s actually pretty cool!!
Oh you’re still a baby…when you hit your fifities call me…*smiles*
Hello!
I turned thirty this sunday and i totally understand what you mean! I came to your blog by chance, but now I am going to bookmark it and I am looking forward to read more.
My dad called me sunday and told me that i am “still” young, and that I am going to have two times other 30 years.
My younger sister asked me, what I wanted as a present, “now, that you are 30…”.
My friends say that I look WAY younger.
I think that there are some good things in turning 30:
* i am not 20 anymore (30 is better, really)
* i am not 40, yet
* reading comics is a sign of culture
* i know my tricks
* i still learn new tricks
* i can come back at home at any time i want
* i can eat anything anytime and totally “ruin the appetite”
* i think there are a lot of things i really understand only now
* i understood that there are believings that are true and i don’t necessary need to believe in
* i don’t want to miss any year
HAPPY BIRTHDAY – this will be a great year!
Dear Joy,
Hi! I turned 30 years old five years ago!!! I am turning 35 on August 17th!!! I had a hard time making the transistion to 30 and I did want to stay 29. I look at it this way the older you get the more you can look back on all of the wonderful things that you have accomplished. I have changed a lot from 30 to 35 and during this time I set priorities for my life and I sticked to most of them. Just remember Joy that you are a valuable person who is beautiful, talented and your age is nothing but a number!!!
Talk to you soon.
Tami
