the sickies
our house was hit with the sickies….
last wednesday night Jaylie was up half the night with a wicked fever.
she didn’t go to school Thursday or Friday, and her fever would go up and down up through 103.4 and down to 99, and back up again. I told Jon that if she was running a temp on Saturday to take her to the drs. but her temp was down in the morning, but back up at night, and then it was sunday, no doctor on sunday and I came home.
sunday night jaden was up with an earache from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. and jaylie woke up with still a slight fever.
I called the dr. and made and appointment. At the doctors her temp was 101.3
so she was still working away at that infection. The doctor listened to her chest and then looked in her ears….and immediately said, “yep, theres a nasty ear infection in there.”
I didn’t even know that 5 year olds could get ear infections. Well with that news, I asked the dr. to look into jadens ears, (b/c of the earache) and when I set him down up on the exam table, I saw nasty puss dripping out of his ears:( I was like, “you aren’t going to like what you see in there” He had ruptured his eardrum! NASTY! The dr. said that it was common and heals in a day or two usually. He wants to see him back in a few weeks.
Soooo, two of my babies have ear infections, and we are flying to Virginia on Friday.
Pray that they get better, b/c they don’t recommend you fly with an ear infection. They are on anti biotics for 14 days.
When jaden had the earache in the night he was so funny. He would say things like ” put a bandaid on it mommy” and I read him couple of books, and he was still feeling really bad. I was thinking about getting out my bible and reading psalms to him, and at the same time he said, “read a mommy book to me mommy” (nothing like a little confirmation of the spirit) I read several psalms including one of my very favorite 139. I sang some songs over him too, and thought of God, “singing a million songs over me” (waterdeep, “You”) Jaden fell asleep while listening to me read psalms.
God is Good (All the Time)

oh, I am so sorry about that. poor babies! we have been battling ear infections here on and off for the last month now and I know how exhausting it can be! poor little ava is really prone to them (unfortunately, she gets that from me)… also, the anti-biotics really did a number on her little system, too (they had to put her on a stronger anti-biotic the second time around)… may I recommend giving them yogurt daily for the next couple of weeks? have you heard of doing this? it replaces all the ‘good’ bacteria in the tummy that the anti-biotics kill… that way, their immune systems stay balanced and can continue to fight off any nasty little intestinal bugs that come their way. I know it may sound a little kooky, but a nurse advised it (and so did my mom!)… will your kids eat yogurt? I put sprinkles on top for ava and she falls for it every time! can I just say that my least favorite part of being a mama is dealing with all the illnesses? I just hate seeing them suffer! and I also hate the worrying, the not-knowing and feelings of helplessness that often accompany all the sicknesses…! ah, but such is the reality of having children…! hope they’re feeling better by this friday… you’ll all be in my prayers this week!
I’m sorry your babies are so sick. They and yourself will be in my thoughts.
I will pray!
I think the anti biotics usually are in effect by 48 hours. so they should be okay!
Aww…I am sorry they are so sick, but that is too sweet about Jaden. Alex loves having Psalms read to him too! He likes the musical rhythm to them.
